At Provident1898, we believe in the value of community. Our company is named for one of the businesses in Durham’s historic Black Wall Street (specifically, the North Carolina Mutual and Provident Association), and we want to honor the legacy of that community of pioneering entrepreneurs.

If you own a business and are looking for ways to connect with fellow entrepreneurs, keep reading to learn a few ways you can get more involved in your local entrepreneur community.

  • Offer to Share Resources – One way to get more involved in your entrepreneur community is to reach out to other business owners and offer to share resources and collaborate. The ability to share resources is one of the key benefits of any community, so we encourage you to put yourself out there. Once other entrepreneurs see you sharing your resources, they will be encouraged to return the favor and even pay it forward to others.
  • Organize Trainings – Another thing you can do to become more involved in your entrepreneur community is to offer to teach your skills to others. Everyone has valuable skills to contribute and teaching them to others helps create redundancy and resilience in the community. In addition, we encourage you to take advantage of opportunities to learn from other members of your community to expand your own skillset.
  • Support Other Entrepreneurs – A third way to get more involved in your entrepreneur community is to pitch in and support fellow entrepreneurs when they need help. For example, contributing to another business’ fundraising or awareness building campaigns creates goodwill, and encourages the ones receiving the support to pay it back later. These kinds of social connections help create a strong foundation for the community, making it more resilient.
