We founded our organization to continue the legacy of Black business pioneers—specifically John Merrick and Dr. Aaron Moore, whose company, North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance Co., once occupied our headquarters, and was once the largest Black-owned business in the United States.
These men were part of Durham, North Carolina’s thriving Black Wall Street, and we want to honor their achievements and those of other Black entrepreneurs.
